The NYTVF was launched in 2005 as the industry’s first creative festival for television artists. A pioneer of the “independent television” movement, the Festival strives to construct a new and innovative path for program development. Where a film festival showcases completed works of art, competing for distribution and ready for the market, the NYTVF showcases ideas and talent, complementing the development process required for network, studio and branded entertainment development.
Artist Success: Identifying Talent
The Festival’s flagship annual contest, the Independent Pilot Competition, has yielded a number of successes - both in shows being sold to Networks and Studios for further development as well as individual talent deals for artists to develop future projects at the Network, Production Company and Studio levels.

NYTVF Development: Individual Initiatives
Based on the success of talent identification through the Festival’s Independent Pilot Competition, beginning in 2007 the NYTVF was able to leverage network and studio relationships to secure blind, guaranteed deals for Festival artists through both individual sponsored initiatives, soliciting content for a specific partner as well as embedded initiatives through the pilot competition. The primary example of this is the FOX Comedy Script Contest, which was greenlit by Festival Board Member Kevin Reilly in 2008. These deals have provided nearly $500,000 in guaranteed development and production financing to independent television artists in the NYTVF community.

In its first six years, the Festival has received over 6,000 submissions from throughout the United States and across the world, providing aspiring television creators with unprecedented access to decision makers and opportunities to showcase their work. Creators hailing from across the artistic landscape have found success and opportunity through the NYTVF. Award-winning NYTVF artists include improv and sketch comedians, independent filmmakers, advertising creatives, staffed television writers/producers and finally, aspiring TV creators looking for their big break.
