Below are some of the premier opportunities for entrants into the 2011 IPC.
Award: $25,000 Genre: Comedy
NOTES FROM FX and Apostle: FX & Apostle Present: FX “THERE IS NO BOX” Comedy Award
FX is the flagship general entertainment basic cable network from Fox. Launched in June of 1994, FX is carried in more than 96 million homes. The diverse schedule includes the critically acclaimed legacy of The Shield and Nip Tuck, along with a growing roster of new critically acclaimed and award-winning original series, an aggressively competitive film library of acquired box-office hit movies, and an impressive lineup of acquired hit series that includes Two and a Half Men. Apostle, launched in 1995 by Denis Leary and Jim Serpico, is the New York City-based production company behind the hit one-hour series Rescue Me.
FX Drama Series include: Rescue Me, Sons of Anarchy, Justified and Lights Out
FX Comedy Series include: It’s Always Sunny in Phiadelphia, The League, Archer, Louie, and new series Wilfred
FX is looking to continue its comedy tradition of supporting bold concepts, unique voices and rich character journeys that are thought-provoking, authentic, audacious and “fun”. We are looking for ADULT character driven comedy that has a smart, subversive and unique point of view – with the driving intention to make people laugh. FX has an aggressive “in your face” comedy brand with more “bent” sensibilities as exemplified in our current comedy series lineup. Our programming has a strong sense of muscularity to the narrative and character that appeals to both men AND women. Our target demo is men and women 18-34. We are looking for comedies– primarily focused on scripted narrative that could be sustained for a 22 minute episode.
Award: $25,000 Genre: Alternative Comedy and Comedic Non-fiction
NOTES FROM IFC: IFC “Out of the Box” Award
IFC TV is partnering with the New York Television Festival to discover the next generation of sharp, cool, twisted original programming. From Portlandia to ONN and The Whitest Kids U Know, IFC champions brilliant out-of-the-box originals, and your pilot could be our next hit show.
A few things you should know: our audience is mainly young and male. They are smart and creative, and they’re obsessive fans of all things cool, funny, and indie: think fanboy, not frat boy. They have a very strong bullshit-detector, so to appeal to them, our shows must be authentic, clever, unconventional and not superficial. Our viewers expect the unexpected from IFC, and they’re comfortable with programming that defies categorization, as long as it’s really fun to watch.
NOTES FROM MTV: MTV “Voice and Vision” Animation Awards
MTV has returned as an NYTVF development partner to offer two development deals for comedic animated submissions to the 2011 NYTVF Independent Pilot Competition. The awards, each valued at $5,000, will be presented to an outstanding comedic writer (“Voice”) and animator (“Vision”) behind animated projects submitted to the Festival’s main competition. While artists contributing to separate animated projects will be eligible for the individual prizes, a creator that serves as both the animator and writer on a single submission may also be eligible for both awards.
