[NEW YORK, NY, October 25, 2014] – Independent artists, industry executives and TV fans celebrated closing night of the 10th annual New York Television Festival this evening at the SVA Theatre in Manhattan, with a series of special events. House of Cards showrunner Beau Willimon kicked things off with the third and final creative keynote of the week, followed by a screening and talk-back of FOX comedy series Mulaney and the Festival’s annual awards ceremony. There, NYTVF (www.nytvf.com) announced the winners of its Independent Pilot Competition (IPC) in 12 categories, including “Best of the Fest” and NYTVF Critics Award honors to “Dispatch” and “Witnesses” respectively, as well as recipients of 20 development deals from its network, studio and digital partners.
In 2014, NYTVF and its partners are bringing a record 32 development deals to independent television creators (some were announced earlier this year). Among the deals are direct-to-series green lights from The Orchard and Travel Channel/ULIVE, and the development of an unscripted pilot presentation with A&E Network.
Also announced were the winner of the HISTORY Unscripted Development Pipeline; five finalists in the Lifetime Unscripted Development Pipeline; winner of the Lionsgate/Sea to Sky – Channel 4 Drama Co-Development Award; and additional development deals from NYTVF partners Channel 4, Comedy Central, Conde Nast Entertainment, Tiny Riot! – a FremantleMedia company, FYI, H2, Investigation Discovery, National Geographic Channels, Red Arrow Entertainment, SundanceTV, truTV, and WE tv.
NYTVF LAUNCHES NEW PRODUCTION ARM WITH FOUR INITIAL DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS: A&E NETWORK, FOX, HISTORY AND THE ORCHARD
NYTVF Productions to work with independent artists to help guide their projects deeper into the development process, creating pilots and series for TV and digital platforms
[NEW YORK, NY, October 23, 2014] – The NYTVF today announced the launch of NYTVF Productions – a new arm of the company formed to be a production partner for independent television artists, guiding their work through the development process, with the ultimate goal being series orders for these projects. This announcement was made today, during the 10th annual New York Television Festival, by Founder/Executive Director Terence Gray, who will be taking on the additional role of executive producer for NYTVF Productions.
NYTVF Productions launches with four deals in place. Three of the NYTVF’s 2014 development partners have signed on – A&E Network, FOX and The Orchard – with the winning independent artists/projects being announced as part of an awards ceremony taking place Saturday, on closing night of the week-long Festival. Additionally, it is being announced today that HISTORY will be the first 2015 NYTVF development partner as well as part of the NYTVF Productions launch. These four partnerships will result in three pilot presentations and one series order, co-produced by NYTVF Productions in conjunction with the indie artists:
- A&E Unscripted Development Pipeline – NYTVF Productions will work with the winner of this 2014 initiative to create an unscripted pilot presentation.
- FOX Comedy Alumni Program – NYTVF Productions will work with the winner of this 2014 initiative to develop a comedy pilot presentation based on the winning comedy script from the FOX Comedy Alumni Program competition. This year, only past finalists of the FOX-NYTVF Comedy Script Contest, which launched as NYTVF’s first TV network development partnership in 2008, were qualified to submit work.
- HISTORY Unscripted Development Pipeline – NYTVF Productions will work with the winner of this 2015 initiative to create an unscripted pilot presentation.
- The Orchard GO Project – NYTVF Productions will work with the winner of this initiative to create a six-episode series for the indie distributor/multi-channel network. This is the first-time that The Orchard will fund and produce its own original episodic series.

Independent Distributor’s First Original Series to be Available on its Multichannel Network
[New York, NY, August 20, 2014] The NYTVF (www.nytvf.com) today announced a groundbreaking new partnership with The Orchard (www.theorchard.com), an independent film/TV and music distribution company, that will award a guaranteed, six-episode series order to an outstanding selection from this year's New York Television Festival. The winner of the Orchard GO Project will be identified from the Festival's Official Artists and will produce their series in partnership with The Orchard and NYTVF.
The Orchard, which operates in more than 25 global markets, is rapidly expanding its film and television distribution efforts, most notably with a slate of newly-acquired films, including the Sundance Grand Jury Documentary Prize Winner Rich Hill, Community-creator Dan Harmon’s Harmontown, and two Tribeca Film Festival standouts: Grand Jury Documentary Prize Winner Point and Shoot and psychological horror favorite The Canal. [New York, NY, July 16, 2014]– Lifetime and the NYTVF (www.nytvf.com) today announced the third annual Lifetime Unscripted Development Pipeline providing indie producers and production companies with the opportunity to develop unscripted programming with the cable powerhouse. In its second year, the initiative shifts focus to casting, seeking tapes that highlight unique characters and stories set in a world that is new to the audience.
As with previous iterations of the Unscripted Development Pipeline, 15 semi-finalists will have their submissions reviewed by Lifetime executives, as well as invited to participate in the 2014 New York Television Festival as Official Artists. Five finalists will then receive development funding from the network to produce additional tape, with one winner awarded $10,000 and the opportunity to participate in the production of a pilot presentation based on their concept.

Investigation Discovery, FremantleMedia North America, FYI, and WE tv are coming aboard as new development partners, with Channel 4 (Entertainment division), National Geographic Channels, SundanceTV, and truTV all returning from last year. These eight join previously-announced 2014 development partners A&E, Comedy Central, HISTORY, and Lionsgate/Sea to Sky (who is partnering with Channel 4's Drama division) and all 12 have committed to offer a development award to independent artists this year.

For the first time, the A&E Unscripted Development Pipeline will include the network guaranteeing that the winning entry will receive the opportunity to produce a pilot presentation with a minimum $25,000 budget.
A&E and the NYTVF are encouraging producers to think outside the box, seeking concepts and characters that inject new life and freshness into the unscripted television landscape. The goal is to galvanize the NYTVF's creative base – totaling over 14,000 writer/producers – to bring their unique creative sensibilities to unscripted storytelling.

In partnership with Channel 4, Lionsgate and Sea to Sky, its joint venture with Frank Giustra’s Thunderbird Films, the NYTVF is launching the “Lionsgate/Sea To Sky Entertainment – Channel 4 Drama Co-Development Award,” guaranteeing that an outstanding drama project will receive a $45,000 script development award from the studio and broadcaster.
Also today, the NYTVF – an organization dedicated to identifying and nurturing top independent creative talent and fostering connections with networks, studios and brands – announced the dates for the 10th annual New York Television Festival, its flagship event, which will take place this year in Manhattan from October 20-25.
To qualify for the Lionsgate/Sea To Sky – Channel 4 Drama co-development award, independent creators must enter a drama project into the NYTVF's annual Independent Pilot Competition (IPC), which is now accepting independently produced television and digital pilots in all genres until June 27. Projects named “Official Selections” in 2014 will be eligible for consideration by Lionsgate/Sea To Sky and Channel 4 for the script development funding.
